Widows Ministry

As fellow believers, we are called by God to care especially for those who are hurting and feel alone. It is with this in mind that Bible Center launched GEMS, a ministry to widows.

If you are a widow, it is our hope that you, regardless of when your husband passed away, will be provided a loving and caring place where you can:

Gather with others who have also experienced the death of their husbands, sharing openly with each other.

Laugh as you sit around tables getting to know each other Better.

Grow as disciples of Christ as you comfort one another with the love that you’ve received from Him.

Belong to a group of people who understand what you’re going through.

Be supported by our deacons and their wives as they provide comfort and practical help.

Attend an annual luncheon with an engaging speaker.

The Widows Ministry exists to glorify God by caring specifically for our widows through friendship, sharing meals together, and receiving monthly encouragement from deacons and their wives.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

The Latest…

When my sister and I lost our dear father, not only did we lose our father, but our mother lost her husband, best friend and her soul mate of 65 years.  Needless to say, our lives were changed forever.  Although we celebrated, knowing our father was with his Lord and Savior, as a family we had to adjust to a new normal.  As in all life’s difficult times, I sought God’s Word for comfort and direction.

Through my efforts to seek God’s wisdom to encourage our mother, I discovered that not only was it my responsibility as a daughter—but it is the responsibility of all Christians and all bodies of believers to reach out to widows.

James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:  to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by this world.”  I love how scripture from so long ago is completely relevant today.  God. Never. Changes.

The purpose of the GEMS (God Encouraging Me through Sisters) ministry is to bring widows of Bible Center Church together for Christian fellowship and growth, to encourage them to seek Him continually, serve Him faithfully, and share Him boldly and to actively receive help from our deacons.

We hope you will join us, and we look forward to our time together.
