"Its going to be a place where people can
connect and as people connect with when another
we hope that will point them towards God."
That’s how Bible Center Church Pastor Shawn
Thornton envisions the church's future facility,
located at Southridge near the new Metro 911
Center.
Thornton and about 1000 other people,
including local dignitaries gathered at that
site for a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday
afternoon.
The President of Prey Construction, Mark
Grigsby, says a site development contractor
should be in place next week, with the actual
building construction beginning in the summer.
Worshipers will be welcomed into the new church
by November 2007, the end of phase one of the
project.
"In phase one, which we have a temporary
interim worship space, we'll double the number
of people we can have seated and more than
double our parking....then phase two and phase
three will give us more room for growth and
we'll go into a final worship center in phase
that will be double the first one we're
building, " says Pastor Thornton
About 1000 workers will be a part of the
construction project at one point another.
As for the feel of the new church: "The
intent was that the building will be comfortable
and inviting to the people of West Virginia. It
will be something they will identify with," says
Architect Jodie Driggs with Silling Associates.
"It looks a little more lodge-like than church
like to the lay person."
The estimated cost of the first phase of the
project: $16 million dollars.
