| Bible Bible curriculum is taught to give the students an over-view of God's dealings with mankind. The life of Joseph from the book of Genesis and the life of Daniel from the book of Daniel are used for this study. The curriculum incorporates a weekly memory verse and a weekly quiz. |
English The goal of third grade English is to teach the student to communicate clearly, use grammar correctly and develop an interest in the structure of language. Weight is given to capitalization and punctuation. Students incorporate this into written book reports, a science report and letter writing. |
| Handwriting Cursive handwriting is taught (Zaner Bloser simplified). The purpose and goal for this subject is neatness and legibility. Students should form good work habits in this area. The purpose is not for every student's handwriting to look like every other student's handwriting. |
History Our American heritage is emphasized from a Biblical perspective. A time line development from just after the Revolutionary War to the Civil war explores our country's history and how it affects our lives today. Maps, globes and charts are utilized to follow American expansion. Students are introduced to the basic concept of US government. |
| Mathematics Mathematics is an important part of a student's day. Emphasis is placed on daily oral and written drills using knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Emphasis is on multidigit addition and subtraction with borrowing, place values, division of multidigit dividend with single digit divisor. Students are introduced to number sentences, fractions, measurement conversion, and geometric shapes. |
Physical Education The third through sixth grade physical education course will give each student the opportunity to improve coordination, conditioning, body strength, specific skills for team sports as well as sportsmanship. Students learn through drills, relays, and playing team sports. Emphasis is placed on improving the students' individual skills. All grades participate in a Fitness Test with awards. |
| Reading Reading is the foundation for all subjects a student will have. The main emphasis is to develop a love of literature using student ability to use word- recognition skills and context clues. Comprehension is taught through literal, interpretive and critical thinking. Students gain greater reading independence through individual and group work as well as silent and oral reading. |
Science The science curriculum is designed to show the beauty and orderliness of God's creation. The students learn how science impacts their daily lives. Observation and classifying are stressed in each area of discipline. Some of the areas involved includes sound, vertebrates, invertebrates and the solar system. |
| Spelling A weekly list of words, based on word families, is taught and tested. Spelling patterns are carried into journal writing. Phonics rules are reviewed weekly. Vocabulary enrichment carries over into Reading and English. |
