Pastoral Transition

15 pastoral transitionWelcome to the Pastoral Transition page for Bible Center Church. We are currently transitioning to a new Senior Pastor, and we intend to use this page to keep our congregation and community aware of the progress being made.

Background

On August 16, 2015, Senior Pastor Eric Mounts announced to the congregation that he would be resigning effective September 6, 2015.  Pastor Mounts’ resignation statement:

God loves the church. The best churches draw their lives from Jesus. Effective leaders inspire confidence and build support into a good future. My gifts and style have not proved effective to these ends here at this good place. The Elders received my resignation on Thursday night. I am not resigning because of moral failure or an issue of sin nor a desire to leave West Virginians for a better ministry place. It has been my joy and privilege to preach to you and seek to lead these last four and a half years. Thank you. I am off on a previously scheduled vacation and will be gone next Sunday August 23, but will have the privilege again to preach on August 30 and September 6. Labor Day Sunday will be my last here at Bible Center. God’s best to you. Keep going!

According to the Church constitution, in such a case a Pastoral Search Committee is appointed by the Board of Elders to recruit, consider, and recommend a replacement candidate.  The Committee, is made up as follows:

  • At least three Elders
  • The Chairman of the board of Deacons
  • One additional Deacon appointed by the Chairman
  • At least four members at large of which three must be female and one single

On Tuesday, September 8, 2015, the Search Committee met for the first time.

Tribute to Pastor Mounts

During the morning services on September 6, 2015, the church paid tribute to Pastor Mounts for his 4 ½ years of service.  In addition to a gift of a “stay and play” golf retreat for Eric and his wife, Andi, a former Elder spoke of the accomplishments and ministry that we experienced with Eric as our lead Pastor.  A tribute video was shown to the congregation recounting and celebrating those accomplishments. Bible Center surely prays God’s best for Eric and Andi as they pursue what is next for them in God’s plan.
