It’s complicated…

Monday: Relationships

Genesis 1:26; John 13:34-35

How many of us have relationships with other people? I think I see 100% of hands being raised. We all have relationships with others. God wired us to be relational, because He is relational. Have your relationships (friendships, dating, marriage, family, etc.) all gone smoothly? This week, we are going to look at relationships of all kinds and learn some principles from Scripture on how to handle them when they get complicated.

For Today: Read the Scripture passages, and pray that God will speak to you this week about the relationships in your life.

Tuesday: Happy, Happy, Happy: The Family

Luke 2:51-52; Ephesians 6:1-4

Families are great. However, most families will be complicated at some level. Maybe not to the level as say, the Roberston’s with Uncle Si, but to some degree, they get complicated.  God designed the family to be the core of societies. God’s original design for the family is supposed to be filled with love, nurture, guidance, and spiritual health.  How many of us believe that we have the perfect family? When we realize our family is not perfect, that may cause us to back away or give up. Families are important and a big deal to God. He doesn’t want us giving up on our family. Fight for the relationship! There will be good times and bad. We all need to extend grace, love, and respect to our family.

For Today: Pause and ask God to help you love your family as He does.

Wednesday: Friendships

1 Samuel 20:41-42; Proverbs 17:17, 18:24, 27:6, 27:17

Do you have a friend that you can really trust and who trusts you? Have you ever been hurt by a “friend?” I believe that most of us want to have great friendships in our lives. The key to this is that we need to be a great friend to have great friends. How do we know if we are being a good friend? Here’s a series of questions to ask ourselves: Am I loyal? Am I lovingly truthful to my friends? Do I help my friends become better people? Do I love my friends no matter what?

For Today:  Read the Scriptures for today and ask yourself those last questions.

Thursday: Authority

Psalm 119:45; 1 Samuel 24:4-6; Romans 13:1-2, 7

Authority. What kind of thoughts and images does this word conjure up in our minds? Is there anyone else thinking of getting pulled over for speeding? We do have many authorities in our lives. It seems our culture today views authority negatively. We are told and taught to resist and fight authority. When we look in God’s Word, we find a different attitude. We discover that true freedom is found under God’s authority! David and Paul remind us in today’s passages that we need honor and respect authority.  What is your view of authority?

For Today: Stop and ponder: What is your attitude towards authority? Does it line up with what God wants for us?

Friday: Marriage and Dating

Ephesians 5:21-33; Philippians 2:3-4

We’ve been looking at relationships and how they can get complicated at times.  Marriage and dating relationships are not immune to this at all! We are sinners saved by grace, but sometimes our own selfishness and sin creeps in and complicates the relationship. Paul tells us how we are to relate to each other as husband and wife. If our relationship gets complicated, we may need to stop and read the Scriptures for today and ask ourselves if we are loving and respecting each other the way God wants us to. Are we being selfish? Are we thinking of each other better than ourselves?

For Today:  Pray and ask God to be the priority in your marriage or dating relationship.
