Pastor’s Letter

Dear Friends,

Welcome to church!

Today we continue with message #10 in our 11-part series, Blueprints of a Healthy Church. Today God will encourage us to “Fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Timothy 6:12). What an appropriate word for Veteran’s Day!

Do you serve, or have you served, in our armed forces? If so, thank you for all you’ve given to serve us! If you’re closely related to one of our military heroes, let me also express my appreciation for your sacrifice.

My grandpa marches to the forefront of my mind on this holiday. In 1945 the US Army Air Corps drafted him. After shipping out through New York Harbor and floating past the Statue of Liberty, this Clay County boy landed in Le Havre, France and rode a train to Ansbach, Germany (just west of Nuremberg). My Grandpa Lloyd—who safely returned to the states 18 months later—was one of the finest men I ever knew.

In today’s service we’ll ask our service men and women to stand and be recognized. Help me extend a word of gratitude to them as well.

Everyone is invited back tomorrow (12th) for Bible Center School’s 18th annual Veteran’s Day Program here in the church auditorium. A walk-in reception begins at 10 AM, with the program beginning at 10:30 AM. This year’s guest speaker is Chief Master Sergeant Robert D. Chandler, U.S. Air Force (Ret). Bring someone with you!

With you for the gospel and for the city,

Matt Friend • Senior Pastor
