Pastor’s Letter

Dear Friends,

Welcome to church!

Today, we continue our 5-week Good News series, learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ. The entire gospel story spans the Bible—cover to cover—just as it spans history from the beginning to eternity. We summarize this true story with 10 words: God Creates (last Sunday), Sin Breaks (today), Jesus Saves (next Sunday), Jesus Transforms (January 27), and God Restores (February 3).

Have you ever started watching a movie halfway through and found it difficult to discern what happened at the beginning? If you missed last Sunday’s message on “God Creates,” let me catch you up. Jesus reminds us that the Creation story is essential to the Gospel story. God is bigger than time, space, and matter; yet He invented time, space, and matter. We’ll never comprehend God’s glory; but we can taste and see that He is good. God is distinct from His creation; but He chooses to interact with His creation. Jesus created the light of the stars; likewise, Jesus gives us the light of salvation. You can watch or listen to the entire message (and download the study notes) from our app or website.

Today, we pick up the story with what went wrong. Why do we feel so broken? If today’s service seems more somber than usual, please know that’s on purpose. Let’s remember that “Sin Breaks.” Be sure to come back next Sunday as we celebrate, “Jesus Saves!”

With you for the gospel and for the city…
