Statement on the Education of Children

Introduction
The education of children is in its largest sense the passing on from one generation to the next the knowledge of what is true, what is of value and what is enduring. Christian education describes an education which is consistent with God’s plan and purpose for man according to His Word, the Bible.

Education takes place during all waking hours for the child. These hours are potent for learning to occur. The words and actions of parents and their interaction with the child form the basis for all that the child will learn for a lifetime. This can be described as informal education. Formal childhood education is that time given to the child at home or in an academic setting with targeted goals in the skills of reading, writing, thinking, and the transmission of basic knowledge. The ultimate goal for every human being is to know and bring glory to God.

The Importance of Revelation
Scripture is plain that God is the Creator and Sustainer of time, matter, and space. He created mankind in His likeness and for His glory. Because of man’s disobedience, death entered creation and fellowship with God was broken. Reconciliation through the work of God in Christ brought hope and redemption to a cursed race. God’s Word to mankind is a message of salvation, a Word that gives meaning and promise to life. God’s plan was to reveal Himself through His Word and through His Son and to see many respond to the great invitation of salvation through faith in Christ. What is true, what is of value, what is enduring is revealed to us by this Word. In Christ, the Logos of God, “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3).”

The Responsibility of Parents
Parents have the responsibility of teaching their children about God, who He is and what He has done. They are their children’s first and primary educators.
Educational philosophy asks the question, “What do we teach our children?” or “What is so important that we must pass it on to the next generation?” The answer comes directly from our philosophy of life (how we live). How we live is in tandem with what we believe: our faith. Every person, whether a believer or an unbeliever, follows this pattern. The Christian has a definitive faith, a distinct philosophy of life and a defined wisdom to pass along to their children.

Purpose of Bible Center School
The primary purpose of Bible Center School is to provide an opportunity for young people to study in a Christ-centered, Bible-integrated academic environment so as to direct the process of student development toward God’s objective for man which is godliness of character and action – Christlikeness – to the end that God may be glorified.

Additionally, the school is to provide an educational experience in preparation for lifelong learning, laying the foundation for the student’s progress throughout their educational career. The school works in conjunction with parents in building into their children Christian character, self-discipline, and high moral standards.

Deuteronomy 6:6, 7
And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Psalm 78:2–7
I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children; That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children, That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments;

Mark 12:29, 30
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
