Pastor’s Letter

Dear Friends,

Welcome to church! I pray today’s service helps you take another step in your walk with Jesus. Please grab a cup of coffee and snack from the lobby, and make yourself at home.

Have you noticed how hot it’s been lately? Record-breaking temperatures are being posted worldwide. For the first time in recorded history, Anchorage, Alaska hit 90 degrees this past week. France recorded its highest-ever temperature last week as continental Europe continues to struggle with an intense heat wave. I think I saw my neighbor frying eggs on his sidewalk a few days ago (not really).

Since I have a seminary degree (and not a science degree), I’ll stay out of the global warming and climate change discussion… but the observation I want to make is much more personal and spiritual: It’s highly possible to have a cold heart on a hot day.

How can we know if our hearts are growing cold to Jesus? What are the signs? Once we identify our need for a change, how can we fix it?

That’s what I’ll be sharing in today’s message from Psalm 63. May God revive our hearts and help us sincerely declare the words of verses 2-3: I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you!

Asking God for His sovereign grace to warm all our hearts,

Matt Friend • Senior Pastor
