Welcome to church! I’m so glad you’re here.
Today we’ll read together the famous true story of the shepherds who welcomed Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem.
Shepherds have been around for thousands of years. In fact, shepherding is probably one of the oldest occupations in the world. Are there still shepherds around today? You bet! Although technology has made raising sheep easier, there are still many places around the world where shepherds still tend their flocks.
From the mountains of the American West to the highlands of Peru and Chile, you’ll find shepherds tending to their sheep. It’s not uncommon for Peruvian and Chilean workers to travel to the U.S. to herd thousands of sheep on open ranges that can be hundreds of miles long and wide.
So, what’s it like to be a shepherd? Although it might seem peaceful to lead obedient sheep across a green pasture, it’s actually a very tough job. In addition to difficult weather, shepherds must keep a constant eye on their herds, for fear of predators, like wolves and mountain lions.
Let’s take a journey back in time and imagine the moment when these shepherds met Jesus.

P.S. I hope you’ll join me back here at 6 PM this evening for another Christmas in Charleston. Tonight’s concert is the same as yesterday’s, with the exception of a guest singer you won’t want to miss. Bring a friend or neighbor with you!
2019 Christmas Offering
Through the years, the Bible Center family has creatively given in various ways during the holidays. This year we are designating all December giving as the “Christmas Offering” to ensure we end the year strong and look forward to all that God will do next year. You may give on Sundays, or anytime online, on the app, or through the mail.
All December giving focuses on two goals:
- Fund the ministry
- Catch up on our budget shortfall so far this year
Your December giving will catch up our budgeted expenses, allowing us to:
- Reach people who may never step foot inside a church by hosting conferences and training events.
- Partner with local organizations like Union Mission
- Repair and maintain our parking lot
- Serve families affected by special needs
- Teach the Bible to hundreds of children weekly, and reach teens with the gospel
- Lead approximately 1500 people in worship each Sunday
- Support missionaries worldwide
Saturday & Sunday at 6 PM
Join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus! Invite your friends and neighbors to enjoy the sounds of the season this Christmas as our musicians and band include both familiar and newer songs.
