Pastor’s Letter

Dear Bible Center family & friends,

Welcome to church! Thanks for visiting in person or tuning in online or on TV.

This weekend we conclude our 5-part Crafted series, studying God’s creation of the universe and exploring why God made all things. Today we’ll discover what went wrong with God’s creation—why everything appears to be broken.

This message, in particular, is designed to prepare our hearts for the Christmas season ahead.

  • Have you ever wondered why the world needed that first Christmas so badly?
  • What’s so wrong with the world that it needs a Savior to rescue it?
  • How do our actions and attitudes still affect the world around us?
  • Whether Christmas is your most or least enjoyable holiday, what might help you enjoy it more?

We’ll end today with a beautiful—yet solemn—rendition of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” May the words echo in the deepest recesses of your soul…

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory o’er the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Dayspring, from on high,
And cheer us by Thy drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Adonai, Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height,
In ancient times didst give the law
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Longing for the Christ of Christmas,

Matt Friend • Lead Pastor
